Intro To: Good TV Show Games

TV Show Games

Last week, we introduced you to some of our favourite Cartoon and Anime games. This week, we’re going a little more mainstream with some of our favourite TV show games in general. Read on for examples of some of the best TV show board game tie-ins out there:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Board Game is a fully cooperative game for 1 to 6 players that can be played in 40 to 60 minutes, and is one of our recommended cooperative games. This action management game was designed right here at The Round Table by Lynnvander Studios, and lets you play as Buffy and the rest of the Scoobie gang, as they save Townies from Vampires and Demons, while trying to defeat Monsters of the Week, and uncover the Big Bad’s plot.  The game is very much designed to feel like a season of the TV show boiled down into a board game – and you choose the season when you select which Big Bad you will face off against! Will you foil the Master’s plan or will you risk gruesome injuries at the hands of Caleb? If you’re a fan of cooperative games or of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then this is a game that you need to play!

Star Trek: Five-Year Mission is a cooperative game for 3 to 7 players that can be played in 30 to 45 minutes. In this dice placement game, you play as crew members of either the USS Enterprise from Star Trek TOS or the USS Enterprise-D from Star Trek TNG. Your goal is to solve a series of alerts to score points. If too many alerts are failed or the enterprise is destroyed, the game is lost. This light game uses dice placement to try to replicate the tense decision making that faces characters in the television show. If you’re looking for a tight dice game that’s true to Star Trek, give this one a try!

Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game is a semi-cooperative game for 3 to 6 players that can be played in 120 to 300 minutes. In this resource management deduction game, each player chooses a character from the show and is randomly dealt a role as either a human or a Cylon. As the game progresses, the fleet moves closer to the earth, resources run low, and more Cylons are revealed. If the humans reach earth successfully, they win the game! If the Galactica is brought down, the Cylons win the game! If you’re looking for a great sci-fi game what will keep you playing and entertained for hours, check this one out! It’s more in-depth than most of the games we recommend but that doesn’t make it any less of a great game!

Firefly: The Game is a competitive game for 1 to 5 players that can be played in 120 to 240 minutes. In this area movement dice and card game, you play as the captain of a Firefly-class transport ship. Your goal is to be the first player to complete the story goals. With your hand-picked crew, you travel the ‘Verse, avoiding Reavers and Alliance ships, and working with all manor of shady clients. If you’re looking for a solid game with tons of cameos from the tv show that can be pretty in-depth and strategic, try this one out!

These great TV show based games are sure to be a blast for anyone familiar with the source material or even just a lover of well polished games. Since we’re posting this in December, keep some of these games in mind for last minute gifts – especially if you know a big fan of any of these series! Or, if you’re looking for a good stocking stuffer, check out some of our past recommendations! Whether it’s for holiday shopping or just to play some games, we’re looking forward to your next visit!
