Hey everyone,

Matt here – our bar manager!

At the Round Table, we are always getting asked about our specialty cocktails and the process that goes into making them. In light of that we bring you a brand new article series about the how-to behind some of our most popular drinks. To kick it off we’ll be starting with one of my personal favorites, The Sour in the Stone.

Before you start, you’re going to need a few things:

  • Amaretto Dell’ Amorosa
  • Elijah Craig Bourbon
  • 1 lemon
  • Egg whites
  • shaker glass
  • martini glass
  • sharp knife
  • lemon squeezer

Once you have everything prepared, you can move on to prepping the drink! To start off, your going to combine 1.25 ounce Amaretto, 1 oz bourbon, and a splash of egg whites in your shaker glass. Then, using your lemon squeezer, juice half of your lemon into your shaker glass, and shake without ice. This “dry shake” is important as it lets the ingredients fully mix with the egg whites, giving the drink a nice frothy texture. Next add ice to the shaker and shake again to chill your cocktail. Once it’s nice and cold, strain it into your martini glass and use the other half of your lemon to cut out a nice lemon slice to use as garnish. Frothy, chilled, and garnished, your Sour in the Stone is ready to serve!

There you have it, now you know how to make the Sour in the Stone at home! We’ll be continuing this series with several more of our most popular drinks, so check back soon for our next article!

Afterlife
We’re excited to announce that our partner location, Afterlife Video Game Lounge is now officially soft-opened!

What does soft opening mean?
It means that we’re open for business with semi-limited hours, our full kitchen, and virgin drink services. It also means that our grand opening is only a few weeks away! After our grand opening, we’ll be offering a huge cocktail menu, similar to the one we have here at The Round Table. In the meantime, please visit us over at Afterlife to check out our growing video game library, coffee service, and even some new menu items exclusive to that location!

Where is Afterlife?
Afterlife is located in the heart of downtown Guelph at 101 Wyndham St. North, just next to Old Quebec Street. Look for our black awning, and check out our video-game themed window displays!

Master Sword

What is a video game lounge?
A video game lounge is a relaxed cocktail bar where you can sit down to enjoy themed drinks and foods while you play video games, or watch video game tournaments streamed to our HD TVs. Our “Retro Pods” are set up with tons of classic consoles (NES, SNES, N64, Playstation, etc.) hooked up to CRT televisons to give you that classic retro experience. If you’re looking for something a little more modern, come play Smash Bros on our Wii U, or rock out some Halo on one of our XBOX 360s! When you visit, check out our menu, and order some delicious snacks to fill your HP and power you up while you game!

Is it kid friendly?
Of course! After our grand opening, we’ll be offering bar services late into the evening. However, during the day, kids are more than welcome to come in for snacks, milkshakes and desserts, and play on our wide variety of game consoles! If your child loves video games, contact us to find out about birthday reservations!

What’s next?
Over the coming months, we’ll be improving Afterlife all of the time by expanding our menu, adding games and game consoles to our library, and starting up drink services! All of this is a big endeavor and your support during our soft opening is really appreciated! Please stop by to check the place out, play a few games, and make sure to tell your friends! The Round Table has been in business for a little over a year, and we’ve seen an awesome community grow here. We can’t wait to see the same thing happen at Afterlife!
